What kind of hard drives are supported?

Last Updated: Oct 16, 2015 09:43AM PDT
There is no specific hard drive recommended, although for best results you’ll want a USB 2.0 (or 3.0) drive with enough space to record your shows - everyone’s usage differs depending on how many shows they record but 1TB is usually more than enough for most folks!

The USB hard drive is powered by the USB port on your Simple.TV DVR (STV1, STV2), you most cases you do not need a separate power supply for your hard drive 1-4TB.

For Simple.TV DVR (white) up to 2 TB drive should be OK
For Simple.TV Dual Tuner by Silicondust (black) up to 4 TB drive should be OK.

Its always best to be sure the firmware is up-to-date on the drive side.

Here are some specific configurations Simple.TV will not be supporting:
- NAS Drives (Network Attached Storage)
- USB thumb drives
- Drives with a speed slower than 5400 rpm
- Internal OEM "laptop" drives
- "Home-made" or "custom" drives (where drive parts have been assembled into a generic case)
